Caring is Our Focus

At the heart of St. James, you’ll find a strong desire to reach out to the last, the least, and the lost. This desire becomes a way of life for most who call St. James their church, and it shapes a great deal of the church’s activity. Our primary areas of focus are:

  • Feeding the Hungry
  • Caring for the Sick and Imprisoned
  • Housing the Homeless
  • Providing for Those in Need

Outreach Ministry

St. James has several opportunities to serve persons, families, and the community in mission work such as our feeding ministries, distribution of collected goods, partnering with community groups, and giving to various causes. Check out our Facebook page.

United Methodist Men

The men of St. James gather weekly for Bible study and monthly for a prayer breakfast at the church. They sponsor Scouting at the church and do several service projects during the year.

United Methodist Women

The women of St. James have mission work as their primary purpose but they also meet in small groups (circles) for fellowship and study. A twice a year rummage sale is the major event for the group.

Congregational Care

The care of people at St. James is one of our priorities. The care begins with our welcoming ministries that help the visitor become a friend of the church and the friend to become a member. Our Congregational Care Coordinator heads a team that assists people to connect with others in the congregation and to connect others to care for people.

The Adult Ministry Program connects people to Jesus Christ, grows them in knowledge of God and the Bible, provides an avenue for fellowship with one another, and prepares them to serve others.

The Adult Ministry Program at St.James is a rich and varied palette. From Sunday morning classes to weekday and evening opportunities to small groups, we try to offer everyone the chance to create a circle of people in which they are known and can belong, where they may encounter the Holy Spirit and nurture and engage their faith. These experiences may occur one time, once a week, for a series of several weeks or be an on-going commitment.

Small group discussion and activities highlight the spiritual aspect of youth ministry. The annual mission trip has a strong spiritual component as well as service.

Doing mission work is a key part of the youth experience at St. James. This is where our youth put ministry into practice and begin a lifetime of giving back to others.

Fellowship and fun are the hallmarks of any youth ministry and St. James is no exception. Bonding together as a church family creates a support system that lasts a lifetime.

Learning what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and the significance of church membership is the purpose of confirmation in the church. Youth are led by the Youth Ministry Coordinator as they discover what being a disciple of Christ is all about.

Mission Trip

Each summer our youth have the opportunity to participate in a mission trip. On these trips, the youth worship together and share in devotion time individually and in a group.  The youth and adult sponsors build bonds with one another and grow in their faith together.  They serve members of various communities by being the hands and feet of God.

Youth Group

We want to help students discover the beauty of their own stories and connect to the great story that God has been written for them. Here’s how we do it:

  • Service: Use our gifts to meet the needs around us
  • Fellowship: Build bond and friendships in accountability and love.
  • Spiritual: Grow deep in faith and knowledge through worship, conversation and doing.
  • Events and Trips: Unique opportunities to connect, be challenged, and grow

Youth Ministries are open to 6th-12th graders. We typically meet 3-4 times per month. Come join us and bring your friends!

Puppet Ministry

Youth and adults participate in this interactive ministry that travels to locations outside the church to perform and bring the gospel message to people through drama and music.

Youth ministry at St. James is built on a three pillar foundation of spiritual, social, and service activities.

Sanctuary Time with the Pastor

It is important to the leadership at St. James that we provide a strong Christian environment and spiritual aspect to the care of children. Once a week the children meet with the pastor to learn about the basic principles of a relationship with God and to have fun in the process.

Reading Time with Linda

We utilize our wonderful children’s library once a week when our reading specialist reads a special book for the children.

Children's Outreach

St. James provides assistance to children and their families in several ways. For those who qualify financial assistance for child care is provided and the children participate in mission opportunities just their size.
