St. James roots run deep in the Bellevue community
In 1957 a small band of Methodists from Lefler Methodist Church in south Omaha traveled a few miles south to Bellevue and launched a new storefront church on Mission Avenue. Two years later the congregation was chartered and offered worship services at 1501 Franklin Street where it continues to operate today.
Since its inception there have been several additions to the building and to the ministry of the church. Today the church offers two distinct styles of worship. For a couple years until moving into the new facility in 2017, the Contemporary Worship Service was using a church facility rented from the Golden Hills Seventh Day Adventist Church. Ironically, the Golden Hills congregation rented the East campus of St. James in the early 1980’s while their building was being constructed. The East campus located on Franklin Street also offers child care services that has earned Best of Omaha recognition.
